The Major Trauma Signposting Partnership (MTSP) and the Frenkel Topping Charitable Foundation have joined forces to provide valuable additional support to major trauma patients across the UK.
From Monday, 22nd November, MTSP sites at seven hospitals will have access to a fund provided by the Frenkel Topping Charitable Foundation to spend on practical and emotional support immediately after traumatic injury.
Funded by Frenkel Topping Plc and Cardinal Management, the charitable fund is designed to address the need for timely support at the patients’ bedside and gives MTSP advisers access to ‘same-day’ cash to provide immediate assistance to the most needy patients.
Major Trauma Advisers at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, King’s College and St George’s in London, Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, University Hospital, Coventry, the Manchester Royal Infirmary and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, will be given access to site-specific funds for the year. With assistance from NHS and Citizens Advice colleagues, they will identify patients who have suffered serious injury and need urgent help to manage the practical daily challenges that come with the recovery from a serious injury.
Richard Fraser, CEO of Frenkel Topping Group and Trustee of the Frenkel Topping Charitable Foundation, said: “We have worked in the personal injury space for more than 30 years. We know how much a catastrophic accident can turn a life upside down and that starts from the moment a patient arrives in hospital.
“By working with the Major Trauma Centres, we are empowering the staff to provide the practical and emotional support, literally at the bedside, when these patients need it most.”
Andrew Pemberton, Founder of Cardinal Management Ltd said: “At the MTSP we understand that sometimes it is the timing of support that is important, and that even modest levels of support can have a huge impact, if they are available at the right time.
“We see hundreds of scenarios every single week where access to a fund like this one would make the world of difference. After a traumatic injury, there is a lot to contend with. For the MTSP team to be able to sort those small things without fuss will make such a difference.”
Norma Fraser, Frenkel Topping Charitable Foundation Manager said: “We want to make it easy for the Major Trauma Advisors to make decisions on all of those small things that could make a big difference to the people they care for who have been through a lot.
If our support means a patient can get home from hospital with some dignity in a set of clothes rather than in a hospital gown, then we are doing what we set out to do.
If it means that we can top up a phone with some credit so they can speak to their family or that their partner or children can afford a taxi to visit their loved one in hospital and have a cup of tea and something to eat when they arrive, then this project is working. It’s a pleasure to be able to support the MTSPs in the extraordinary work that they do.”
