Working with Vulnerable Individuals

Healthier lifestyles and better medical care is increasing life expectancy in the UK and living longer can have significant financial implications.

As specialists in working with vulnerable individuals (including those who have received sudden wealth due to accident, illness or negligence as well as bereavement or divorce in later life) we understand the challenges and frustrations that can come with protecting your financial assets. Our Later Life Centre of Excellence has been established to deal specifically with a vulnerable individual’s Wealth Management needs in later life.

Our Later Life Centre of Excellence is managed by Wealth Managers who are accredited by the Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA), which offers you peace of mind when looking for wealth management advice for you, someone you know or your client.

We create Later Life financial plans that

Safeguards your financial security for the rest of you lifetime and in particular, providing for the cost of appropriate care provision if your health deteriorates.

Protects and maintains the value your wealth as far as possible during your lifetime.

Ensures that, after your death, your capital passes to the people you would like to receive it, legitimately reducing any tax charge as far as is feasible in the process.

We aim to help you understand your financial options, guide you to make the right financial decisions and ensure that your plan is regularly reviewed and adjusted to keep it on track with your goals.

We are particularly aware that clients at this stage in life may potentially be vulnerable to exploitation or find financial matters confusing and stressful. We pride ourselves on our empathetic attitude and our ability to explain matters in a clear and understandable way.

We also welcome the involvement of your family, your friends or your professional advisers in discussions if you would like to include them.

Our advice offers you

Peace of mind over your finances – what you want to happen, happens, allowing you to get on with your life today

Financial confidence: knowing your plans are affordable

You can enjoy your life, knowing that you have provided for yourself and for your family.

Wherever possible, there will be no nasty financial shocks or surprises.

It will help navigate you through the maze of rules and regulations.

Our Later Life Centre of Excellence consultants are accredited by and members of the Society of Later Life Advisers.

We are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and as independent financial advisers and investment managers, we are not restricted to advising on a limited range of financial products. We always act in the best interests of our clients.

Working with you

Ensuring your financial security in Later Life starts with an assessment of your financial position and calculating your likely incomes and expenditures.

We use financial modelling techniques to identify any shortfall which is likely to result due to your current situation and, if we cannot increase your income to the extent required, we arrange to plug the gap by drawing down on capital as required.

Your Financial Plan

All of our clients have their own specific circumstances and we will design a financial plan to suit your own personal situation.

When designing a strategy we will have to make assumptions about your health, your incomes and expenditures, economic outlook, state funding and taxation. All of these factors are likely to change over time, so our SOLLA accredited consultants will regularly update your cashflow projections and keep your plan under review to keep it on track.

As an example, depending upon your situation, your objectives and your personal views, the plan may also:

Ensure that someone, possibly a friend, family member or legal adviser, is legally appointed to deal with your finances in the event you become unable, or unwilling to manage them yourself.

Review your eligibility for state benefits and/or statutory funding towards the cost of care and ensure that, in the event you incur care costs, that your incomes and assets are correctly assessed by a local authority and that you benefit from any exemptions available.

Improve the tax efficiency of your income and investment returns where possible.

Consider the risk profile of your current investments.

Design an investment management plan to achieve the target annual return required to ensure your financial security whilst minimising the level of risk involved and ensure that sufficient cash is available to meet your expenses at all times.

As part of this process we will hold regular meetings with you and your family members or other professional advisers as you wish. The aim of these meetings is to discuss any change in circumstances which may affect the strategy and any adjustments which may be required. If you need to discuss any matters in between scheduled meetings we will be readily available.
